Terms & Conditions

Silica Dust: Lake House Clay and Art Studio is a working artistic space where some dust and mess are inevitable. Please note that ceramics creates sillica dust. Lake House Clay follows wet cleaning guideleines to minamise risk for staff and clients. PPE is always available. Please be conscious of your actions and always listen to the instructor, if in doubt, ask. Safety is everyone’s business. By participating in any class, workshop, or event, you are accepting the risk that there may be silica dust present. Lake House Clay and Art Studio does not take any liability for any adverse affects of your future health.

Additional Costs: To keep the cost of classes to a minimum the following additional costs apply:

Re-Glazing of pieces. If you dislike how a glaze turns out and would like to reglaze and have it refired, it will incur a fee for the additional firing. Glaze is a science and the chemistry involved in glazing is by nature, unpredictable. Please read all glaze labels for optimum results.

If you create pieces at home outside of classes, they will incur an additional firing fee.  The additional firing fee is are dependent on the width, depth and height of the work(s). Costs for use of underglaze, glazes etc will also apply.

If you miss a class, but make pieces at home, equivalent to a two-hour class, no fee will be incurred, however, you will not be entitled to a make-up class for this missed class.

External Clay: Clay purchased elsewhere can only be used in the studio with prior permission. A fee of $50 per bag will be charged for this service.

External Glaze: Please check before using any external glaze. Some external glazes will incur a fee for firing.

Shhh! Lake House Clay is an inclusive quiet space. Many come to clay class for some down time. Many also enjoy the social side and love meeting people and having a chat. Conversation and laughter is more than welcomed, but please be self aware and respectful of the other class members.

Left-over clay: Any clay left at Lake House Clay by clients who have not rebooked a class will become the property of Lake House Clay. Clients who rebook a class are more than welcome to continue with any clay from previous classes. If clients have left over clay and are not continuing with classes, they can take it home, these can  be fired at additional costs.

Missed Classes: All classes have one extra week that you can attend as a 'make-up' class. If you miss more than one class, it is not guaranteed that you will be able to make up all lost classes, we will try and give you some alternatives where possible. Missed classes can not be carried over to the following term.

Size matters: Please note that all projects will have size limitations due to the firing process and kiln packing requirements. These will be explained at all workshops and classes, so you’ll never need to worry.

Breakages: At Lake House Studio we care for your pieces like they are our very own. Unfortunately, even the best ceramic artists experience breakages. Clay can be a fickle friend and from time to time all clay artists will experience a breakage. Clay can crack when drying or in firing, pieces can fall off, glazes can crawn or flake and on occasions, things can actually explode in the kiln. We will do everything possible to protect your creations (and our kiln) from all of these mishaps, but clay does have a mind of its own and we can only offer an apology if your piece decides its own story.

Smile! If you are attending a class or a workshop, you and/or your work may be photographed for use on Lake House Clay and Art Studio social media or web page. If you do not wish to be photographed for this reason, please notify us. No monies or in-kind exchange is avaliable for images used in this way.

We take all care with you and your special creations, the nature of creating art out of broken tiles means from time to time you may cut yourself. Yes, we will have a band aid for you. PPE is supplied and we suggest you use it; however, tile edges can be sharp and the process can lead to small cuts that do bleed. By participating in our Mosaic classes, you are accepting this risk.

We take all care with you and your special creations, but we are not mother nature and unfortunately, some plants may not make it. Eventually your Kokedama may need some more string and all plants like some plant food from time to time depending on their individual needs.

Kokedama

Limited availability.

Running out of string!!! This is so annoying for you, but as a beginner (or even a macrame master) this happens from time to time. We will help you add string where possible to complete your creation, but this may cause some slight aesthetic differences to expectations.

I didn't get my project completed!! Don't worry, we have very clear printed instructions that you can take home to complete your project.

Macrame

Not currently offered.

Like all art processes, printmaking has its flaws. Lino is a soft material to cut and even print masters can slip and put a line where they didn’t want one. This simply means that it is tme to reassess your ‘design, or ignore it! Lino cutting tools are sharp and you may cut yourself, please take all precautions as demonstrated by your teacher, and have your cutting hand in front of all other limbs. The process can definitely lead to small, or larger cuts that do bleed, deeper cuts may require a stitch or 3! By participating in our Print Making classes, you are accepting this risk.
